Places to Visit Jordan in 7 days
Jordan is small but very
beautiful country. Jordan beauty mainly attracts tour groups, but it is also a
must for backpackers and independent travelers. So take the Jordan Excursions tours at
this vacation and you can go to Jordan for a trip of 7-10 days. With this tour
you can visit most attractive part of the Jordan such as:
Amman:
Amman is the capital of Jordan
and most flights land here. Although there is little to experience in Amman,
you will still end up here because of its central location. Amman is great to visit
in one day. In Amman, you can visit the King Abdullah Mosque. This is one of
the few mosques that you cannot use as a Muslim (you get a chador on the spot
that you have to pull on, this is quite an experience). Of course, you also
have to visit the citadel and the Roman Theater in the middle of the city!
Jerash:
The ancient Roman city of Jerash
is an absolute must. Jerash was one of the ten largest cities in the world in
Roman times and an incredible amount has been preserved. When you walk through
the city you can imagine how it would have been 2,000 years ago. Although this
is such a special place, you will not meet many tourists so you can wander
through the city relaxed. Leave at least half a day for a visit to Jerash. Most
travelers visit Jerash as a day trip from Amman (1-1.5 hours by bus) or combine
it with a visit to Aljun. Ajlun is a small town with an Islamic castle that you
can also have a nice view of the area. It is hilly and very green with many
pine trees. If you want to see more of the surroundings go to the Ajlun nature
reserve where you can make various walks.
Dead Sea :
Of course, you cannot leave
Jordan without a visit to the Dead Sea. A dive in the Dead Sea is a super
experience. Walk into the water until you are pushed up! It is a bizarre
feeling to stay afloat without having to make any effort yourself. Make sure
that you do not have any wounds or water in your eyes because this really
pricks! When you visit the Dead Sea you should definitely rub yourself with
mud. You get a nice soft skin! To swim in the Dead Sea and then also to shower
you can go to various luxury hotels or at the cheaper Amman beach resort. If
you go to the last one, take something to wear over your swimsuit.
Wadi Mujib
One of the nicest sporting
activities you can do in Jordan is a trip through Wadi Mujib. Also enjoy some
activities such as walking through a river, swimming, climbing over waterfalls
or even a whole day of canyoning. You have the choice of an independent route
to follow and a number of routes with a guide. There are also many animals in
the Wadi Mujib, but you will not see them during most of the routes. The
visitor center for Wadi Mujib can be found on the Dead Sea Highway. To get here
you need your own transport or a lift. You have to pay and sign a form that you
enter the Wadi on your own responsibility. You will also receive a life jacket
for the wet trails. You can leave your car key here. Do not take anything else
with you, only the first piece is in the sun so you do not need water either.
Do not take a camera with you unless it is waterproof. There are also showers
and changing rooms at the visitor center. Put on practical clothes, for
example, shorts and a shirt. The stones are rough so only swimsuits are not
pleasant.
Wadi Rum
The Wadi Rum is the largest
desert in Jordan. It is certainly not a standard dessert. The dessert consists
of red, round mountains. Especially during the sunset, the landscape is
beautifully colored red. Most people know the Wadi Rum by Thomas Edward
Lawrence who prepared his Arab troops for the attack on Aqaba during the Arab
uprising. The Wadi Rum can only be visited as part of a tour that you can
easily book in Jordan.
Petra :
This is the absolute highlight
of Jordan. The city of Petra was completely carved out of rocks some 2,000
years ago by the Nabataeans. The enormous wealth in this city was due to its
ideal location on popular trade routes. You enter the city after a walk through
the Siq (a huge gorge). When you leave the gap completely, you suddenly see the
Treasury appear. Not many years ago many people lived in Petra. A few years ago
a village was built at a small distance from Petra where the residents of Petra
were allowed to move. At the moment there are still 20 families living in the
rocks of Petra.
Aqaba :
Aqaba is the seaside resort of
Jordan. Although Queen Noor has tried to make something of it by constructing a
boulevard with palm trees, it is still not a cozy seaside resort at first
glance. Yet the city certainly has its charms for those who look a bit further.
The public Aqaba tours beach in the city itself is not recommended, especially for a woman
alone. But there are plenty of other options for sun, sea, and beach. You can
also dive or snorkel in Aqaba.
Desert Castles :
The so-called desert castles are
buildings with different uses all from the Umayyad period. The highlight is the
World Heritage Site Qasr Amra; this was a winter palace with beautiful murals.
The bathing area is also interesting, especially if you explain how it works to
get water in the middle of the desert. Qasr Kharana was possibly a fortress or
an overnight stop and has a robust appearance. Furthermore, you still have Qasr
al Hallabat and the nearby Hamman al Sarakh. Entrance: 2JD for castles and
Azraq fort together.
Umm Al Jimal :
The Roman city consists entirely
of black basalt stone, so the site does not really look like the other Roman
cities in Jordan. In some places, it is very reminiscent of the Inca building
style. It is interesting to see how in this region without wood everything was
made of stone such as stairs, roofs, and even revolving doors. There are no
large temples or theaters here, hardly anything has been restored, yet the
houses are easily recognizable.
How much you can see depends on
whether you are traveling by public transport or a rental car but you can, in
any case, visit the (most important) sights Amman, the Dead Sea, Petra, Wadi
Rum, Aqaba, and Mount nebo in a week.
